Omani Greetings, 10 Ways

learn arabic in oman, Omani colloquial greetings

Greetings in Oman are so important because, relationships are built over these simple interactions. Westerners often times don’t understand this importance. That’s why I recommend you learn a few phrases in Arabic and use them often. However, you can do even better at opening doors and making friends if you use colloquial Omani Greetings.

My friends over at Noor Majan Arabic Institute helped me create this list of Omani greetings, 10 ways. You can listen to our conversation in episode 025 of the Sultanate podcast. In this episode we talk about learning Arabic in Oman and we practice the greetings listed below. So, press play if you are like me and learn better by ear. Check it out.

The list below is essentially a back and forth conversation between two people. Give it a try! Words like “Hello” (Hayak), and “What’s going on?” (Mu Akhbarak?) are really great places to start. Choose one phrase to use on the first day. Use it often, then more on to another phrase or work the following day. Before you know it you’ll be mistaken for an Omani ;)

If you are looking for a more broad list of Arabic words and phrases I’ve got you covered too.
